An island for the adventurous, Lasqueti drifts in the middle of the Gulf of Georgia, its relatively lonely position a reflection of its islanders, who like the isolation.
A passenger only ferry leaves from French Creek on Vancouver Island, midway between Parksville and Qualicum Beach, servicing the 350 residents who live in relative seclusion here and the exploring tourists who are intrigued with this small Gulf Island. While summer sailings may be 3 times a day to service the summer residents, in the winter the
ferry service drops considerably to only a few times a week, so plan accordingly. The 17 km. trip in this compact ferry takes about 50 minutes and can be quite an adventure as sea conditions here can get quite rough when a strong wind and tide face off. Thinking of bringing your car? Forget it.
It's a passenger only ferry. Any exploring you do on Lasqueti will be by foot or by bicycle.

The roads are quiet but they are also unpaved. The island is 5 km. wide and 21 km. long and contains five small lakes and numerous bays, many of them worth a visit.
Residents have chosen to generate their own electricity using solar power, windmills or water driven turbines.

Lasqueti has a small school for grades one to eight. Farmland is poor on the island, and there is very little industry other than a fishing company which makes and designs seiners and the occasional clam and oyster farming venture.
A hotel, campsite and B & B cater to visitors.
The only park land is at Squitty Bay Marine Park at the southeastern end of the island but there is no camping here.
