Horseshoe Bay

Welcome to one of the most beautiful spots on the planet! The milky green waters of Howe Sound stretch toward Squamish, snow capped mountains practically rise out of the water, Anvil Island pops out of the Sound like an exotic south sea promise, the Upper Levels Highway beckons travellers to follow the waters and explore the communities tucked beyond the Sound, with names like Pemberton and Whistler, while trails invite hikers to put on their boots and climb, and a bevy of small boats fishing at nearby "hole in the wall" tempts fisher folk to try for salmon in one of the most popular fishing spots anywhere.
Not tempted yet? How about a 15 minute ferry trip over to Bowen Island to explore the once popular and trendy resort destination of choice back in the early 1900's? (See Bowen Island).
Or why not pack a picnic and take the winding cliff side Marine Drive to Lighthouse Park, with its 10 kilometers of trails winding past ancient conifers, and its waterfront rocky perches, or settle in at Whitecliffe Park, the Mecca of scuba divers. Or drive to Fisherman's Cove, and wander its three kilometer seawalk, built on an old railway bed. The Cove is located near Gleneagles Golf Course, close to Horseshoe Bay. On a hot day, if the swimsuits are handy and the children restless, this spot could be your salvation.

Marine Drive, which in places clings to the cliffs, is a premier waterfront drive, taking you into bustling West Vancouver proper, and its trendy Ambleside district.

The hilly village of Horseshoe Bay itself is perfect for a short waterfront stroll, a stop for fish and chips or other refreshments, and a walk out on the docks to check out the small boats for rent. Small shops and restaurants cater to travellers awaiting the ferry and vie with each other to ensure that motorists are kept occupied while they wait their ferry.

And here's a bit of trivia for you. Did you know that West Vancouverites are the largest wage earners in Canada? (Highest wages per capita.)
